Illness Policy

To help prevent the spread of illness our school policy states:
Children may not be sent to school with infections that might cause other children to become ill.
A child with a fever of 100.4 degrees or more, diarrhea, vomiting or unexplained rashes should not be sent to school.
Children who have had a fever should not return to school until they have been free of a fever without the aid of medications for a minimum of 24 hours. This 24 hour policy also applies for vomiting and diarrhea.

There are often questions about the differences between influenza, the common cold and pertussis. Below is a chart that explains each illness, what the symptoms are and what you can do to help your child if they become sick. There is also a chart that you may refer to for other common childhood illness that may be a helpful reference for school attendance. The chart is modified from the Iowa Department of Public Health. For the full list of Epidemiology of Common Communicable Diseases, visit their website: www.idph.state.ia.us
